What is Matrix/Element?
Matrix is an open protocol for decentralized, secure communication. Think of it as email for chat - no single company controls it.
Element is the most popular client for Matrix (like Gmail is for email, or Outlook for Exchange).
Why Matrix Over Slack/Discord?
- Open Source - No vendor lock-in, you own your data
- Decentralized - No single point of failure
- End-to-End Encrypted - Your conversations are private
- Interoperable - Can bridge to Slack, Discord, IRC, and more
- Self-Hostable - Run your own server if you want
- Privacy-Focused - Aligns with Jesse's open standards advocacy
